Earlier this term, Hogwarts went on an excursion to the Recycling and Waste Management Centre at Mugga Lane. We got to take a tour of the centre and learn about all the great ways, that they are working to recycle and reuse unwanted items and reduce the amount that ends up in landfill. We even saw how they turn methane gas created by the landfill into electricity. How amazing is that!
What is your best waste wise tip?
My best waste wise tip is to take old electronic devices that you do not want or that do not work any more to the special recycling place so that they can be recycled into new glass, metal etc. J.T.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic tip J.T. Televisions and electronics such as computers that no longer work, can be taken to the Waste Transfer Station to be recycled.

My tip is there is a machine that sucks in methane and gives electricity to a lot of houses. JS
ReplyDeleteWe did get to see the Landfill Gas Power Station on our tour, which definitely does convert methane gasses from the landfill into electricity. A great piece of information JS.

using food scraps to make a worm farm and provide new soil. PP
ReplyDeleteGreat tip PP. Worm farms are a wonderful way to recycle our food scraps and the worms then produce liquid fertiliser which can be used in the garden. Did you know that a worm can eat its own weight in food every day?

My best tip is to not put reusable items in a plastic bag otherwise it'll just end up in landfill.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic tip Aaliyah. Remember plastic bags can be recycled at Coles because they have special bins for soft plastics. The soft plastic is then sent away to be made into other plastic products, such as furniture for schools and parks.

My best tip from the tip was don't put tissues in recycling because otherwise it will go to landfill. By Scott
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent tip Scott. It is very important that we sort our waste correctly, as lots of recyclable items will end up in landfill if we put items in the wrong bins.
