Connectives

During our WoW session today, we explored how connectives can help make our narratives more interesting. We played a game where we chose a connective card out of a bag and used this to open a new sentence. Check out our collaborative story from today:

One day, a majestic tiger, was hunting for his food. Suddenly, a hunter leapt out from behind a bush. Before the tiger could escape, the hunter shot him with a tranquillizer. As the hunter approached the tiger, another tiger pounced out from behind a bush. However, the man was not actually a hunter, he was a scientist. Unluckily, the tiger still charged towards the scientist like a bolt of lightening. When the scientist saw the ferocious tiger, he darted up the nearest tree. Unfortunately, the tiger could climb trees too........

Can you use the same connectives (underlined) to write a completely different narrative?

  1. One day, a mischievous monkey was playing in the jungle and he saw a banana. Suddenly, the banana moved, giving him a fright. Before he knew it, another monkey approached him. As quick as a flash in an attempt to get away, he swung from tree to tree. However, he wasn’t watching where he was going. Unluckily, he had a collision with a branch, bumped his head and fell to the ground. When help arrived he was embarrassed. Unfortunately, accidents happen.

  2. Fantastic Chloe. I love that your short story has all of the essential elements of a narrative. I found myself going 'Uh-Oh!' and then 'Phew!'. Great job.

  3. One day a unusually handsome cookie was sitting in a jar when suddenly a hand came in the jar. Before the hand reached in, the cookie heard whatever was attached to this arm saying "I'm gonna have a cookie right now". As the hand got closer the cookie trembled. He was scared however he was a tough cookie. Unluckily the hand grabbed him and started to take Mr Cookie towards his mouth. When the cookie realised what was going on he started to scream. Unfortunately for 'the arm', 'the arm's' Mum yelled "Jonathon, put that cookie back immediately!" J.T.

  4. One day, a beautiful butterfly was fluttering around the garden. Suddenly, a noisy Magpie came to attack her! Before the butterfly could turn around to look at the bird somebody came out to swish the Magpie away. As the Magpie flew away the human asked the butterfly if she was alright. However, the butterfly was alright. Unluckily, another bird came down from the tree. When the human tried to scare the bird away the butterfly knew that she could trust the human. Unfortunately for the birds, the human set up a scare crow that only the birds were scared of so the butterflies could live a happy life.

  5. ONE DAY, a ferocious lion went for a walk. SUDDENLY,a hunter lept out from the bushes. BEFORE the lion could get away from the hunter, more hunters surrounded the lion. AS the hunters formed a circle around the lion, more lions approached. HOWEVER the lions exaped from the hunters by jumping over the hunters. UNLUCKY, the hunters raced in search for the lions. WHEN some monkeys saw the lions, they climbed up the nearest tree. UNFORTUNATELY, the lions charged up that same tree with the hunters behind them and shot the lions. LM

  6. One day I cooked an omelette for lunch. Suddenly the pan went pop sizzle sizzle. Before I could get hold of the pan there was a massive explosion. As it happened i ran to get mum. However I couldn't get to mum because the door was locked. Unluckily there was a fire all around me. When the fire got bigger I screamed loudly but unfortunately my mum couldn't hear me and I blew up to dust. By Scott
