The Orangutan Project

The Realm of Rodda were lucky enough to have a special guest speaker from The Orangutan Project come to visit this week. Lynn is a volunteer at the Canberra branch of The Orangutan Project and took time out of her day to share lots of interesting information and talk to us about the conservation of Orangutans. You can learn more about the Orangutan Project by visiting http://www.orangutan.org.au/index.htm

The SRC will be raising money for The Orangutan Project and promoting recycling next Friday with a 'Green Day'.

Did you know that Orangutans share 97% of their DNA with humans? What other interesting information do you know about Orangutans and their habitat?

  1. Orangutans use materials like wood, twigs and sticks to make tools!
Also they use leaves to make a hat for the rain, and for when it's hot.

  2. What fantastic information Rory, thank you for sharing it.

Did you know that Orangutans measure from 1.2m to 1.5m tall and weigh up to 100kg?

They also have one seriously big arm span - some males can stretch their arms 2m from fingertip to fingertip!

  5. That is fantastic Ava, every little bit helps save these beautiful animals. What items have you found at home so far that contain palm oil?
