Readers' Workshop, Creative Arts and Little Bits

Each week we have been continuing to focus on our personal reading goals by making our thinking visible during Readers' Workshops. We have been working on different strategies  to help make us better readers. Some of our strategies include using a BME, Topic-Subtopic-Detail, Chapter Ends... Stop!, Tic Tac Toe, Questioning Web, Uh Oh Phew!, Character Traits and Story Structure.

We have also been working hard during Visual Arts, on some amazing new artworks ready for the Amazing Art Show next term! Take a sneak peak...

You didn't really think we would show you our finished works of art, did you?

Each of our classes also takes turns rotating through both tennis and Little Bits (Digital Technologies) lessons. Currently the Whoopsysplunkers are going out each week for tennis and the Mugglewumps are participating in Little Bits. This week the Mugglewumps used Little Bits modules to form an electronic circuit in order to create a Bubble Flute.

What reading strategy are you currently working on and how does it help make you a better reader?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Excursion

On Wednesday this week, all of our Year 3/4 students in the Dahls, had the incredible opportunity to be able to travel to Sydney to view the musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Capital Theatre in Haymarket. We had an amazing time and it was an experience many of us will never forget!

Some of our favourite parts included;

"When Mike Teavee was sent across the stage in millions of tiny pieces to the TV and came out shrunken" - Alex H

"When the Oompa Loompas came on stage and danced to the songs" - Ashlynn C

"All of it!" - Jacob C

"When the Oompa Loompas pranced around as each child was taken away" - Kate L

"When Violet Beauregarde ate the chewing gum, it was funny watching her blow up like a blueberry" - Ekkamneer J

"My favourite part was when the Oompa Loompas were tap dancing on the stage" Bailey V

What was your favourite part of the musical?

Eggstravaganza

We have been incredibly busy in the Dahls over the last few weeks. Last Friday we all participated in our Technologies Eggstravaganza. We were each given the task of designing something that would protect our egg from a large drop onto a concrete surface. Once we had drawn and labelled our design we used our egg-cents to purchase items from the teachers to make our design. We had to make sure that we used materials in a sustainable manner so that we did not have any waste. Next we all went outside and tested our designs by dropping them from the top of the wall outside the canteen onto the concrete below. Some of eggs looked a bit different after their drop. Finally we had to appraise our designs by writing about what we would change or do differently next time or how we could improve on what we had made.

After testing what is something that you decided that you would add to or change from your original design ideas?
