Camp Note Reminder

Just a friendly last minute reminder before we head off to camp tomorrow, to ensure that you pack an extra set of clothes, including socks and shoes due to the wet weather we have had.

We are so excited to see you all at school bright and early at 8 am!

Science

In Science, Year 3/4 have been learning about flowering plants. We have investigated the process of germination, the stages in a plant's life cycle and what plants need for growth.

We began by investigating the outside and inside appearance of a seed, when dry and when soaked in water, next we all learned about the changes that occur in a germinating seed. Then as a group we looked at the internal parts of a flower and the role they play in pollination. Everyone then had the opportunity to plant a broad bean seed, in our very own mini plant nurseries. Finally, we all learnt about the seeds in and on different fruits and about how fruits develop.

Take a look below at some of our investigations and how our bean seeds are progressing so far.

What is something new or interesting that you have learned about plants, seeds, flowers, germination or pollination?

Maths, Orienteering and all things Gardening!

We are having such a busy term so far in Hogwarts. Year 3 are currently working on division in Maths and have been exploring sharing different items into groups and the relationship between multiplication and division with fact families.

We have been continuing with our orienteering program with international coaches from Orienteering ACT, Freddo and Saara. Last Wednesday out session looked like it would be rained out but our amazing coaches came up with a fun mapping symbols team relay race and an individual time challenge indoor course in the hall using lots of obstacles. We had a fantastic time and all worked hard to try and improve on our times each turn on the course.

Our Hogwarts vegetable garden is growing incredibly well and we have lots of flowers on our strawberries and tomatoes which is very exciting and our carrots are getting close to being ready to harvest. We would love you all to pop in and take a look the next time you are at school.

Term 4 is off and running!!

What a busy few weeks we have had for the start of term 4. We came back from our break to find our vegetable garden looking amazing. ( A big thank you to Gary and Phillip for all of their hard work watering over the holidays!)

Last week Year 3/4 were incredibly lucky to be able to begin our four week orienteering progr, run by international coaches Frederic and Saara from Orienteering ACT. The aim in orienteering is to navigate your way around a course with a series of checkpoints. The course is marked on a map with coloured symbols. We will be learning about compass points for direction, how to read maps and how to use specialist orienteering equipment such as SI Sticks to record our accuracy and time around a mapped course.
