Mugga Lane Waste Management Centre Excursion

Earlier this term, Hogwarts went on an excursion to the Recycling and Waste Management Centre at Mugga Lane. We got to take a tour of the centre and learn about all the great ways, that they are working to recycle and reuse unwanted items and reduce the amount that ends up in landfill. We even saw how they turn methane gas created by the landfill into electricity. How amazing is that!

Shopping Spree

Students have recently been revising and learning a range of addition strategies. Year 4 practised these strategies by purchasing items from around the classroom... and they got some bargains!

What would you buy and what would be the most efficient strategy?

Strike It Out! - Year 4 Maths

We recently played this addition and subtraction strategy game.

Try this game with someone at home: draw a number line from 1 to 20.

The first player picks two different numbers, crosses them out and circles their sum or their difference. The second player crosses out the circled number and another number that's still left, and agin circles the sum or the difference.

The winner is the person who stops their opponent from being able to move!

Watch this short video on Youtube that demonstrates how to play

Connectives

During our WoW session today, we explored how connectives can help make our narratives more interesting. We played a game where we chose a connective card out of a bag and used this to open a new sentence. Check out our collaborative story from today:

One day, a majestic tiger, was hunting for his food. Suddenly, a hunter leapt out from behind a bush. Before the tiger could escape, the hunter shot him with a tranquillizer. As the hunter approached the tiger, another tiger pounced out from behind a bush. However, the man was not actually a hunter, he was a scientist. Unluckily, the tiger still charged towards the scientist like a bolt of lightening. When the scientist saw the ferocious tiger, he darted up the nearest tree. Unfortunately, the tiger could climb trees too........

Can you use the same connectives (underlined) to write a completely different narrative?
