The Orangutan Project

The Realm of Rodda were lucky enough to have a special guest speaker from The Orangutan Project come to visit this week. Lynn is a volunteer at the Canberra branch of The Orangutan Project and took time out of her day to share lots of interesting information and talk to us about the conservation of Orangutans. You can learn more about the Orangutan Project by visiting http://www.orangutan.org.au/index.htm

The SRC will be raising money for The Orangutan Project and promoting recycling next Friday with a 'Green Day'.

Did you know that Orangutans share 97% of their DNA with humans? What other interesting information do you know about Orangutans and their habitat?

Fractions and Decimals

During maths this week Year 4 have been exploring fractions and decimals. We used a fraction wall to help us understand equivalent fractions. For example 2 quarters (2/4) is equivalent to 1 half (1/2).

Some great games that we have been using in class to practice fractions and decimals can be found by visiting www.mathopolis.com/games/orderingdec1.php and

What equivalent fractions can you find?

Reading Strategy: Summarising

It has been a busy week in the Realm of Rodda, we have been learning about how to summarise texts by shortening them and putting what we read into our own words, to help us better understand what we are reading.

When have you needed to summarise a text?

Measurement

In Year 3 we have been measuring items in and around the classroom, including ourselves! We then recorded and compared our measurements on a giant ruler.

What items around your house have you needed to measure? What did you measure them with?
